Use your blog as a powerful marketing tool

MUsing a blog to market your business any B2B blogs start with great intentions behind them, but fail to succeed because they are not seen as a long-term commitment. Instant feedback is rare, yet we crave a response for our efforts and a lack of it may feel demotivating. This can often result in marketers giving up on their blog before it has a chance to thrive. Here, DMA Europa Group offer advice on using a blog to market your business and how you can make it succeed.

How to create a successful marketing blog

It is difficult to launch a successful B2B blog, but there are many examples out there that show it is possible. Here are 5 tips for making a successful marketing blog:

  1. Don’t give up
IBM found that 85% of corporate blogs have five posts or less, which shows that marketers give up on their blogs too quickly. Bear in mind that it takes months for your blog to get noticed so don’t write if off after a couple of posts.
  2. Consistency
Remember that your blog is a communication tool. You can’t build a relationship with your readers if you don’t provide them with content on a regular basis. The key to making a successful marketing blog is to always plan ahead and stick to your schedule to maintain a consistent flow of high-quality content.
  3. Keep it short and sweet!
Remember that your target group is a busy one, so keep your posts brief. As a rule of thumb, articles should be between 250 and 600 words. Include lists and bullet points if you can – anything that will help your readers find the information they are looking for.
  4. Make it visual
If possible, include graphs, videos, graphics and charts. It takes seconds for your readers to judge your blog post and decide if they want to read it or not. A block of text doesn’t look appealing but a well-structured post with a visual appeal certainly does!
  5. Feed the Google spiders!
This is incredibly important if you are using a blog to market your business. Google regularly sends out spiders to crawl all over your website and check for more than 100 indicators to help them decide if your blog is useful or not. Useful blogs are rewarded with a good search engine ranking which is what every marketer wants. This is where SEO comes in, and you can think of it as the art of keeping the Google spiders well fed. Unfortunately, good SEO can be a very complicated and complex process, but luckily there are many different SEO plugins and tools (for example Yoast for WP) that can help you with the basics, even if you’re not an SEO specialist.

Don’t forget that blogging should be fun. If you enjoy writing it, your readers are more likely to enjoy reading it. As Tom Fishburne, Marketoonist and Founder of Marketoon Studios, said: “The best marketing doesn’t feel like marketing!”
